Neil Ross
Neil is an entirely self-taught local artist from Clevedon. He lives, and has his art studio close to the shoreline, where Neil states:
"We are blessed with the second highest tidal range in the world, light of exceptional clarity and quality, and unfeasibly spectacular, polychromatic sunsets."
After more than 40 years in commercial graphic design, inextricably yoked to impossible deadlines, demanding customers and unrealistic budgets, Neil took the decision in 2018 to escape the frantic, corporate world and follow his lifelong ambition to paint.
"No longer chained to a computer, I can indulge myself with child-like glee and express what I see, feel and love about the coastal fringes of our world." - Neil Ross
Neil focuses mainly on landscapes and seascapes and has an abiding passion and love for the water's edge.
"My inspiration, and my passion, is for that special, magical space where the land and the sea meet and embrace the sky." - Neil Ross
Neil's work is typically mixed media, with an emphasis on oils, acrylics, watercolours, pastels, drawing inks and gouache - As Neil says:
"basically anything that will make a mark"
Neil also gets a lot of his inspiration from visiting the coastlines and harbours of Cornwall, Devon, West Wales and Brittany.
