Stephen Jenkins
Stephen is an active member of Clevedon Art Club and has the job of looking after the club's regular press releases and publicity for the Exhibitions.
He is an entirely self-taught artist. Simplicity is the keynote which he likes to bear in mind when he sets about a painting or drawing.
Stephen says; "The journey of discovery has been interesting and surprising at times when things have not gone quite as planned, and these happy accidents are often incorporated into the finished piece!"
Stephens's paintings are predominantly of coastal villages. He loves the strong shapes the cottages make, especially in bright sunlight.
He describes older buildings having like people. great character, personality and humour, which he likes to explore in his Paintings.
Stephen says; "Britain is a maritime nation, our history and culture is defined by the sea. The coast and its activities penetrate our language and thinking. The sea sustains us physically and emotionally; and without it we would diminished. Those generations Of seamen who have lived and worked by the sea have left their mark on the landscape in the shapes of their houses, and their workplaces. Each part of the coast has it's own particular character and charm."
Stephen describes his paintings as a celebration of the West Country shores and the places where those people made their houses and workplaces.
